This literature reviews focuses on the ongoing problem of adolescent substance abuse in the United States, and the need for prevention programs. Following this introduction will be an overview of the body of evidence supporting the need for prevention intervention, and then a summary and conclusion section. The literature reviewed was conducted via search using the Liberty University Library searchable database and the internet. Only recent articles within the last eight years from peer reviewed journals and information published on government sponsored websites were included. Additionally, the material needed to demonstrate the problem of adolescent substance abuse and support the need for intervention in this primary population.
