Show all documents Pantawane a new type of base - isolation system is developed here for a multi-storey reinforced concrete building First case is fixed base and second case is base isolated. This paper intends to demonstrate how an isolation system can be efficient, evaluating its effectiveness for the building in terms of maximum shear force, maximum bending moment, base shear, storey drift and storey displacement reductions. From analytical results, it is observed that base isolation technique is very significant in order to reduce the seismic response of both symmetric as well as asymmetric models as compared to fixed base building and control the damages in building during strong ground shaking. Finally it is concluded that base isolation system is significantly effective to protect the structures against moderate as well as strong earthquake ground motion. Base Isolation Systems — A State of the Art Review According to Their Mechanism Nowadays, different methods of seismic isolation techniques have been developed and numerous studies have been conducted on different types of seismic isolation systems, and their results have been published as research papers and textbooks such as Skinner et al. Among the well-known seismic isolation methods, the followings can be mentioned: lead rubber bearing LRB , low damping rubber bearing LDRB , high damping rubber bearing HDRB , friction pendulum system FPS in the single, double and triple types, Teflon sliding support, orthogonal rod bearing, steel ball bearing, mushroom-shaped bearing and springs type bearing.

Recently, Nepal earthquake April killed and injured lot of people. Many residential and public structures have collapsed in this earthquake.
